Who Needs Skin Care?
This is a frequently asked question. Keeping in mind skin cancer only, one should also keep in mind that the southern sun is harsh to the skin.
A personal history or family history of skin cancer is an important reason to have a periodic skin examination.
Remind our nurses of your medical history for skin problems.
Do You Have New Skin Spots ?
A new, unexplained, skin spot usually needs an examination.
New spots in an individual with a history of skin cancer ( or positive family history for skin cancer) should receive a timely examination.
A small biopsy may be needed to identify questionable areas.
How Can I Avoid Sun Spots ?
Avoidance of direct sun light is of course the best measure for most of us, however, this not always practical.
For this reason practitioners sun screen lotions, these are geared by their sun protection factors ( SPF)
Sun screens of SPF 35 or better, applied twice a day is often required. Some patients may need an application every two to three hours when on the beach.
Please remember, that sun screens are not a substitute for common sense.
Limit your sun exposure.
